CrossCards v2.2 now available

Freeverse Software has released CrossCards v2.2, a new version of its innovative puzzle game that combines crosswords with playing cards. The new version adds features and fixes bugs. It runs on Mac OS 8.6 or later, including Mac OS X, and a downloadable demo is available.

Drip Drop released; arcade puzzle game

Phelios Software has released Drip Drop, a new Tetris-style arcade puzzle game with three different modes, all themed on water. You’ll need OpenGL acceleration to play, and a downloadable demo version is available.

FlareStorm updated

2510 has updated its PlayStation emulator for Mac OS X, Flarestorm. The new version, 1.2 alpha 1, is ready for download. Offered as freeware, Flarestorm requires a copy of PlayStation BIOS ROMs to run.

Myth II returns, for OS X

If you have Myth II: Soulblighter installed on your “Classic” partition and you’d like to run it natively in Mac OS X, visit MythDevelopers. They’re distributing a new Carbonized version of the legendary Bungie real time strategy game, now in beta development.

NASCAR Racing 2002 Season updated to v1.0.1

Aspyr Media has released an updated version of its auto racing simulation game NASCAR Racing 2002 Season. The new version corrects problems with drafting, unsafe pit entry, sound issues, user interface and memory tweaks, HID problems and more.

Q3F Full Install available

A full installation for the Quake 3 Arena modification called Q3F, or Quake 3 Fortress, is now available for each platform, including the Mac. The hefty install is about 220MB, so be sure to do it from a bandwidth-rich connection.

TacOps to be used in Marine Corps training

War game publisher Battlefront.com has noted that its excellent turn-based military simulation TacOps (no relation to the Tactical Ops UT mod) is to be used for U.S. Marine Corps training. A special version will be offered to the USMC, just like what TacOps has done for the US Army and other military forces.

Torque Games Engine licensing opens up

Independent game publisher GarageGames announced an expansion to its licensing program for the Torque Game Engine — a 3D game engine already used to create Mac games like the recent-released Marble Blast. The revision enables developers who exceed the income limits of the original license to use the technology, and to publish through a larger publisher.

X-Words Deluxe v2.2 released

Freeverse Software a also updated its Scrabble-like crossword game for the Macintosh, X-Words Deluxe. The new version, 2.2, adds features and fixes bugs. It requires Mac OS 8.6 or later (including Mac OS X), and costs $19.95. A demo is available.

MacGamer.com has posted a review of Maelstrom 3.0, a GPL implementation of the popular arcade game from Ambrosia Software. Inside Mac Games has posted a preview of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003, the forthcoming golf game from Aspyr.

Aspyr Media posted details to its Web site about its forthcoming conversion of SimCity 4, the sought-after city simulation game. Ubi Soft Entertainment announced that Shadowbane has gone gold master; it’s a new online game for PCs and Macs that’s been in development for four years. Sony is accepting applications to beta-test Mac EverQuest. Nvidia announced new GeForce FX graphics chips. ATI introduced new Radeon graphics chips. Immersion blessed 12 force feedback controllers for use on the Mac. Aspyr Media’s Amy Torres talked about game stuff on Your Mac Life. Master of Orion III will come out for the Mac on March 19th, according to MacSoft. Aspyr will publish Mac and PC versions of SpyHunter, the first time they’ve ever done a hybrid game.
